2021.12.03 13:36 hobokobo1028 [gendered] Vandalism
I think my (F) wife and I (M) were “victims” of pointlessly gendered (or possibly homophobic?) Christmas-themed vandalism last night.
We have these wooden reindeer in our yard that are assembled in pieces. Two reindeer, both have antlers (because Christmas reindeer have antlers, right???)
Last night I got home late and noticed that someone had removed the antlers off of one of the reindeer and stacked the pieces in a neat little pile next to it. (My wife says it wasn’t her).
So, is someone passive-aggressively telling us that one of the reindeer has to be “female”??? Is this a homophobic thing??? Genuinely confused.
I thought all the Christmas reindeer have antlers.

2021.12.03 13:36 ariannamillz This game has been so aggravating since it’s been free on Epic Games.
Every game I’ve played today, somebody on the team has been camped/tunneled to death by a killer who doesn’t know how to chase anyone.
If I go down going for the save, I’m either left to die on my first hook, while the rest of the team stands around not knowing what to do. Or the entire team tries to save and just keeps farming each other without BT until everybody is wiped out.
Is anyone else experiencing this and just being put with brand new players, or just me??

2021.12.03 13:36 BroadJoel1 VPN use cases - bypassing geo-blocks
We already touched up on bypassing geo-blocks when discussing the perks of traveling with a VPN. This is definitely one of the most popular VPN use cases, and quite a self-explanatory one, though we're sure there's always more to learn.
What is geo-blocking, and why isn’t everything available in your country?
Geo-blocking is the limiting of access to certain websites based on geographical location. It’s most prevalent in the video streaming industry, but can affect any other type of media as well. Generally, the two main reasons for geo-blocking are copyright licensing and censorship.
Let’s take Netflix as an example - why does every country have a different library? Because Netflix has to play by movie and television studios' rules. As for censorship, it might mostly be imposed by oppressive governments, but the scope of the issue has seen an alarming increase in democratic countries, too. There are of course other unfortunate reasons for geo-restrictions, for example, a shopping website doesn’t have the means to ship its products to a specific country.
How does geo-blocking work?
Geo-blocking works by tracking your Internet Protocol (IP) address which gives away your geographical location. All your devices that are connected to the internet have IPs which are provided by your internet service provider (ISP). Therefore, your ISP knows where you are, what devices you use, and what you do online.
When you visit a website, the IP address of your network is sent to the server, so it knows where it has to send the content. Using your IP address, a website can determine your rough geographical location. Website administrators then apply geo-blocking based on this information.
Is geo-blocking legal?
When it comes to streaming sites getting geo-restricted, it’s because of copyright and licensing deals. In these cases, it’s legal to impose geo-blocking because the decision depends on copyright holders.
Geo-blocking can also seem illegal in cases when the government blocks access to widely used social media sites. More often than not, non-democratic countries such as China and Russia dabble in such censorship practices.
As for the EU, The Council of the European Union calls geo-blocking a discriminatory practice that prevents member states from purchasing goods from one another. For this reason, the Council banned unjustified geo-blocking within the EU. However, the law only regards the strategy to turn the European Union into a single market. In 2018, when tackling the Digital Single Market, the EU also made it an obligation for paid content providers to offer the cross-border portability feature to the subscribers who are in the EU.
How to bypass geo-blocking?
VPN: both the most effective and secure way to bypass geo-blocking. It masks your real IP address, substitutes it with one that’s based in a different country, and encrypts all your browsing traffic.
Proxy servers: a proxy server acts as a middleman between you and the website you’re trying to reach. It will mask your IP address just like a VPN, but won't redirect your internet data through an encrypted tunnel. A VPN protects all traffic that goes through your device, while a proxy only works on website or application level.
Tor browser: Tor works by sending your traffic through random servers (also known as "relays") within the Tor network. However, Tor doesn’t offer the same speed or security that a VPN does. It can be very slow due to its architecture, and because of its infamous reputation, your ISP can become suspicious of your online activities when they detect you’re using Tor.
Smart DNS and DNS changers: when you use Smart DNS or DNS changers (a.k.a. DNS resolvers), they change DNS servers on your device from local ones to DNS servers based in a different country. If a website uses DNS-level blocks to deny access to users in particular countries, then using Smart DNS or DNS changer will do the job. However, it won't change your IP address or encrypt your data, and it won't unlock everything.
You're best off using a VPN because of the speed, functionality and security it offers in one neat package.
Read more about bypassing geo-blocks on our blog, and keep your net free, fellow Sharks!

2021.12.03 13:36 Ok-Abbreviations2485 My boyfriend refused to give me food. Am I the asshole for being irritated?
Basically, I’ve visited him last weekend and it turned out he had corona. That’s why I decided to stay with him in quarantine because I don't want to infect my parents at home. We are together for 6 months FYI.
I haven’t gotten sick fortunately so we’re just spending time together and I’m helping him with chores/cooking and giving him an occasional massage. He's mostly gaming since he has mild symptoms.
However, my boyfriend did something extremely rude today and I don’t know how I should react. Basically, I told him I was extremely hungry so I walked to his kitchen to grab a snack. He then followed me and stopped me from getting a snack. He told me: “with all due respect you didn’t buy the food”. I just said “oh.. okay” and walked back to his living room with an empty stomach. We did eat dinner a few hours later and he did apologize. He said he thought it was rude for me to just say I'm going to grab a snack. This didn't really click with me but I just said I understood because I wasn't in the mood for an argument.
I mean... I'm your boyfriend and I personally have no trouble sharing food with my best friend/relationships. By all means, grab whatever you'd like from my kitchen. But in this case, not only am I his boyfriend... I'm also in quarantine because of him and thus not able to go to the supermarket...
Now I’m sitting on his couch and I’m kinda irritated… but I don’t want to start an argument. I even bought him groceries last time I was here so I don’t know why he acted like that. Is this a major red flag?

2021.12.03 13:36 miter1980 A question from a new reader
I am somewhat new to the series (just finished Memories of Ice) and really love the campaigns/battles/characters, but some of the fantasy elements leave me really confused... I have two questions (of vastly different scales and depth ;) ) I'd really appreciate someone's help with: 1(easy?)) Why is Kilava immortal (or close to, having lived 300 000+ years) if she did not participate in the T'lan Imass ritual? That was probably explained somewhere and I missed it... 2(hard?)) Just like Murillo, I'm really interested in all those "old women who sleep". I was under the impression that Burn's realm is THE realm of the books (where the "mortal" characters, e.g. the Malazan's, live). Is that the case? (I'm no longer sure, given the events with the Mhybe - is Mhybe's realm just as "real" then?). If so, why is the calendar of Burn's sleep a thousand or so years, while the realm/world has been around for hundreds of thousands(and events in that distant past still have obvious effect on it)?
